The Mac build is still marked BETA. v1.4.0’s main disk image, BUG-Clicker-mac.dmg, is 223.2 MiB and had 910 downloads of that file on 3 November 2026. The developer site dates this beta 31 October 2026. The Mac release listing dates it 1 November 2026. I print both. The main image wants macOS 13 Ventura or newer.

Monterey is a different file
macOS 12 uses BUG-Clicker-mac12.dmg from the pre-release tag mac12, still version 1.4.0. The Monterey build does not include the “move with the music” reaction. That reaction needs macOS 14.2 or newer, and even on newer systems the developer still calls it a beta. I am not stating Intel versus Apple silicon support, because the release notes do not say.
Open the dmg, then Open Anyway
- Open BUG-Clicker-mac.dmg and drag BUG Clicker into Applications.
- If macOS says the app cannot be opened because the developer cannot be verified, or that Apple could not verify it, close the dialog.
- Open System Settings, Privacy & Security, scroll to the note about the app, and choose Open Anyway. Confirm again and enter the password.
That prompt is what an un-notarized build produces. The developer has not published a notarization statement, so I am reading the prompt, not quoting a blog post about certificates.
Permissions and the locked library
The guide asks for Screen Recording, audio input, Input Monitoring for the typing reaction, and Keychain access so a received character image can be locked. The developer says those permissions are only for those features. A received character image is locked to this Mac and this user. Copying the data folder to another computer does not unlock it.
The Mac data folder is ~/Library/Application Support/BUG Clicker. In Finder, Go, Go to Folder, paste that path. From v1.2.0 onward, updating means downloading a new dmg and replacing the app. The guide says characters and settings stay if you choose Replace.
Questions
Why does macOS block the first open?
The dialog says the developer cannot be verified. Use Privacy & Security, then Open Anyway. That is the usual result when a build is not notarized.
Can I copy my pets to a second Mac?
Received character images are locked to one device and one user. A folder copy does not open them on another Mac.
