Two different features get called “sound.” One is the click effect: a short sample (click, tap, pop, or a wav or mp3 you added) played when the pet is pressed. The other is the music reaction: the pet moves when it hears volume. The developer says that reaction measures loudness and does not record the audio. This page is not about insect calls.
The click sample is silent
Open reactions and the effect list. Pick a built-in sample or your file, and use the preview. Reminder chimes ship muted; enable them inside the reminder settings if a to-do is the thing you expected to hear.
It will not dance to music
Under reactions, choose a sound source that can hear the system output. On Windows that device is often named Stereo Mix or the localized “stereo mix.” If the list has no such device, a virtual cable is the usual workaround, and the guide does not name a brand. Headphones that suddenly stop the reaction usually mean the default output changed. Point the capture at the output you are actually using, or at a “system sound” device if one is listed.
On a Mac the music reaction exists from the 1.2.0 beta and needs macOS 14.2 or newer, plus the screen-recording and audio permissions the install page lists. The Monterey dmg does not include it. Typing reactions need Input Monitoring. If a game is running as administrator, the pet has to run as administrator too, or it will not see the keys. Security tools that block the exe should get BUG-Clicker.exe as an exception.
Questions
Does the pet upload what I play?
The developer says the reaction keeps loudness, not a recording. That claim has no second lab behind it. See the safety page.
Why does the Monterey build ignore music?
The macOS 12 dmg omits the music reaction. The feature needs macOS 14.2 or newer.
